Sprint Nextel iDEN/CDMA Power Source Notification

Sprint Nextel users with the priority Walkie-Talkie (push-to-talk) feature now have the option to update their current handsets to the new PowerSource(tm) phones available from Sprint Nextel. An industry first, these phones represent a new category of handsets that utilize the Nextel National Network (iDEN) for walkie-talkie services and the Sprint Nationwide Network (CDMA) for voice and data services. Please note that if you are an existing Nextel-based Wireless Priority Service (WPS) user and decide to update your current handset to the new PowerSource(tm) phones, you will NOT be able to utilize WPS on the new phone. Currently, the WPS capability is not available on the PowerSource(tm) phones, but WPS service is scheduled to be added during the fourth quarter of 2007.

We advise you to wait for WPS capability to be added to the PowerSource(tm) phones before you update your own cell phone. However, if you do decide to switch before the end of the year, please know that you will not have WPS on your handset. For more information call the ERT hotline at 1-888-639-0020.

Service Requests

WPS is requested for Sprint/Nextel users through the on-line GETS-WPS Information Delivery Service (G-WIDS). See the Program Information section on how to obtain a Point of Contact (POC) User ID and password to access G-WIDS. The following information is needed to complete the on-line WPS service request for Sprint/Nextel users:

  • Each User’s 10 Digit Cellular Telephone Number
  • The appropriate Sprint Nextel Account Number. Accounts may have one or more users. WPS charges will appear on this account.

Upon service activation an email is sent to the POC and user advising that WPS has been activated. Users should make a WPS test call when they are notified of service activation. If the user is unable to complete the test call they should call the user assistance number, located on the back of the GETS card. That number is 1-800-818-4387 or 1-703-818-4387.
