Availability
Wireless Priority Service (WPS) is available throughout
Verizon Wireless’ coverage area except where noted below.
To view the Verizon Wireless coverage area go to the Verizon
Wireless Coverage Locator, type in the zip code(s) for your
operational area(s), and click on Display Map.
- WPS is not available in the following areas: Sacramento and
northeastern California; western Colorado; Peoria,
Illinois; South Bend and Evansville, Indiana; far western Kentucky;
central and northern Nevada;
North and South Carolina (is available in Charleston); southwestern
and northeastern Oregon (is available in Portland); central Pennsylvania;
southeastern Washington; and the southern third of Wyoming. Organizations
that qualify for WPS should contact their local Verizon Wireless
representative to clarify coverage in their operational area(s).
- Verizon Wireless has completed deployment of WPS Full Operational
Capability Phase 2, which provides cellular voice calls with priority
access to local radio channels when originating a WPS call or
when terminating a WPS or GETS call. Phase 2 capability also provides
priority treatment for WPS calls on an end-to-end basis through
nearly 90% of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and
to any cellular phone that is served by any WPS-enabled network.
- Please note that when roaming, WPS functionality may be available
on other CDMA WPS-enabled networks (i.e. Sprint PCS starting in
4th Quarter, 2007). WPS functionality is not available when roaming
on CDMA networks that are not WPS enabled or in service areas
not covered by intercarrier roaming agreements.
Service Requests
WPS is requested for Verizon Wireless users through
the on-line GETS-WPS Information Delivery Service (G-WIDS). See
the Program Information section on how to obtain a Point of Contact
(POC) User ID and password to access G-WIDS.
The following information is needed to complete the
on-line WPS service request for Verizon Wireless users:
- Each User’s 10 Digit Cellular Telephone Number
- The appropriate Verizon Wireless account number. Accounts may
have one or more users. WPS charges will appear on this account.
Prior to service activation, a Verizon Wireless representative
will contact the user’s billing contact for approval of WPS
charges on their Verizon Wireless account. POCs are encouraged to
advise the billing contact of each WPS service request. If Verizon
Wireless is unable to confirm approval from the billing contact,
the Priority Telecommunications Service Center will contact the
POC.
Upon service activation an email is sent to the POC
and user advising that WPS has been activated. Users should make
a WPS test call when they are notified of service activation. If
the user is unable to complete the test call they should call the
user assistance number, located on the back of the GETS card. That
number is 1-800-818-4387 or 1-703-818-4387.
